Case Study
Trinity Mirror

The client was looking to upgrade the lighting installation as in its current state it was expensive to maintain and operate. They needed a solution which would achieve 500 lux, could be remotely controlled for lux level and movement detection.  The new solution must also use the existing lighting positions to achieve the 500 lux.

The original installation featured 350 off 400W Metal Halide low bays along with a number of twin 58 watt non-corrosives luminaires which worked as the emergency system and ran from a central battery system which was failing.  Both lighting systems were in use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

A lighting survey was carried out and a lighting design was produced to ensure the require average illumination of 500 lux was achieved. We specified our 144W Impact V fitting which features high efficiency Nichia LEDs mounted on aluminium core PCB for optimal cooling.  To give the client the maximum flexibility and control Tridonic DALI control gear linked to remotely programmable movement and light level sensors were included.  This control gear is mounted inside the luminaire but away from the LED boards to allow for optimal operating conditions and maximum life expectancy from all components. The emergency lighting was replaced by the adding a self-test emergency pack to each new fitting with a wide are LED lens to achieve 1 lux minimum over the entire area.
